Ladybugs are a non-chemical way of controlling garden pests such as aphids. The League believes that it is best for our environment if we do not use harsh chemicals to control pests as these chemicals leach into our soil and groundwater and ultimately end up in our own bodies and that of other animals that inhabit the planet. In order to encourage others to use non-chemical means of controlling pests, the League sponsors an annual Ladybug Giveaway for the citizens of Glen Ellyn.
Note: The Ladybugs that the League gives away each year are the "good" kind are not the stinky "bad" ladybugs which are a foreign import and not native to our environment.
