Social Justice

What is
Social Justice?

The League of Women Voters is not just about voting rights. It is also about human rights and social justice. Over the hundred plus years since its founding, LWV has worked to illuminate social justice ISSUES and promote ADVOCACY to effect change at local, state and national levels.

League of Women Voters of Illinois and National LWV place these issues under “Social Policy” in their organizations. Some of these issues include: Health Care, Immigration, Affordable Fair Housing, Violence Prevention, Equal Rights for Women, DEI, Equality of Employment and Pay Equity.

If you are interested in learning more about the League of Women Voters positions on Social issues, please see the Social Policy section of the LWV IL Where We Stand program and the LWV US Impact on Issues program.

The LWV Glen Ellyn does not do social policy, thus we use the moniker “Social Justice. “The LWVGE Social Justice Mission is To educate LWVGE members and community voters to increase awareness of social justice issues and their impact on our community and to engage voters to become advocates for social justice.

The LWVGE has an engaged and active Social Justice Committee. For more information contact Director Sarah Allen at: info@lwvge.org.
