Topic: Budget Bill Passed by US Congress
Where: Glen Ellyn Public Library, N/S Meeting Rooms
On Thursday May 22, 2025, the US House passed the budget bill, dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill,” by a vote of 215 to 214. The bill now moves to the US Senate. If this bill is signed into law, the Center on Budget & Policy Priorities estimates that 13.7 million people will lose healthcare. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the bill will increase the national debt by $2.3 trillion. The bill would also restrict the authority of federal courts to hold government officials in contempt when they violate court orders. Want to learn more about what is in the bill and how to make your voice heard? Join us for the next Defend Democracy Drop-In, Tuesday, June 10th, from 11:00 am - 12 pm at the Glen Ellyn Public Library. Our facilitator will share updates, and provide resources that make it easy for you to engage with your public officials and members of Congress regarding the budget bill. Please bring your phone, tablet and/or laptop. We will be contacting our members of Congress about the issues we care about.
