Defend Democracy Drop-In

Topic: Due Process Rights

Where: Glen Ellyn Public Library, N/S Meeting Rooms

On June 23, 2025, the Supreme Court of the United States paused a lower court order that prevented the Trump administration from deporting migrants to countries other than their country of origin without affording them due process. That decision was issued by what is dubbed the “shadow docket" which means that there were no hearings held by the justices on the matter. This ruling allows the Trump administration to continue to deport non-citizens to countries they have never visited, without the opportunity to challenge the deportation. In response, Celina Stewart, CEO of the LWV said: “This shameful and dangerous decision is a direct attack on the right to due process and will cause irreparable harm to the most vulnerable among us.”

Join us for the next Defend Democracy Drop-In,  Tuesday, July 8, from 11:00 am - 12 pm at the Glen Ellyn Public Library.  Our facilitators will provide an overview of due process as it pertains to immigration, share LWV statements and positions on this matter, answer your questions and provide suggestions for how you can engage on this important topic. Please bring your phone, and a tablet/computer.

This is democracy in action, so we hope to see you there!
