LWV Glen Ellyn members are invited to participate in the LWVIL Gun Violence Prevention Study Consensus meeting. League studies form the foundation for developing or updating League positions—and member participation is essential to that process. The current LWVUS position on gun violence prevention, last updated in 1998, supports strong federal regulations on handgun and assault weapon ownership. The LWV Glen Ellyn study team has reviewed 25 questions across five topic areas, compiling summaries of arguments for and against adopting the state’s proposed recommendations. The goal of the meeting is to reach consensus on these positions, which will be submitted to the League of Women Voters of Illinois (LWVIL).
Consensus doesn't necessarily mean unanimous agreement. It reflects general agreement among members. Dissenting opinions are acknowledged and documented. These differing views are included in the final summary submitted to the League of Women Voters of Illinois (LWVIL).
A summary of the findings will be presented and reviewed for each question, allowing members to discuss and reach a consensus or note where there is no consensus.
