2025 Winners of Democracy Challenge Creative Expression Contest At Glenbard South and West Announced

May19, 2025 - The League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn (LWVGE) awarded prizes to high school students at both Glenbard South and West for the 3rd Annual Charlotte Swett Walter Democracy Challenge Award. The Democracy Challenge is a creative expression contest where the students interpret the 2025 theme “We the People?” in creative writing, visual arts, music, dance or film. Winners receive a certificate and $500.

Glenbard South’s  2025 winner was Amelia Buhle for her poignant visual arts poster entitled “Election Anxiety.” Glenbard West’s 2025 winner was Lily Wiedholz for her powerful poem “Who are we?,” which she performed at the LWVGE Annual Dinner on May 1, 2025 to a standing ovation. Honorable Mention went to Mary McCluskey at Glenbard West for her poem “We” but Not “All” and Iman Meah at Glenbard South for her poem “We The Heart.” Both Honorable Mentions received a certificate and a journal.

League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn Recognizes Outstanding Members

Awards presented May 1, 2025 at the Annual Meeting of League of Women Voters Glen Ellyn (LWVGE). Since the year 2000, LWVGE has recognized outstanding volunteer efforts from among its hundreds of members with an annual award program. Selected by committees from nominations submitted by members, the most recent awards were bestowed upon the recipients during the LWVGE’s 2024-2025 Annual meeting.
