2025-2026 Meeting Challenge
League encourages active participation in government. That includes local government! While running for local office or serving on a local commission is not for everyone, there is something we can all do to promote democracy at the local level.
LWVGE announces its 2025-2026 local board meeting challenge.
All LWVGE members are asked to attend local government board meetings as an act of public service. Merely showing up to a meeting is an act of participation. By attending meetings we demonstrate our interest and appreciation for the work of local boards, and we become better informed community members. There are many opportunities and you can find a meeting that works with your schedule and interests. LWVGE makes it easy by posting many of the upcoming public meetings on LWVGE.org and in monthly e-blasts.
During a similar challenge in 2023-2024, LWVGE members put 86 attendances in the books. So this year we are aiming for 100 attendances by the end of April 2026. We hope everyone will be a part of this effort. Follow the steps and guidelines below. Do it for you, your family and your community. Steps and Guidelines:
You choose a meeting to attend. The resource list below and monthly LWVGE e-blast make it easy to find upcoming meetings. If you live outside of Glen Ellyn, you are encouraged to attend your community’s meetings and follow the steps below.
Attend the meeting as a private citizen/community member (and take a friend!). You are there to listen and learn. If you choose to make a public comment during the meeting you are welcome to do so as a private citizen (not a League member). Only LWVGE Co-Presidents can speak for the League.
After the meeting send an email reporting the board name and date of the meeting you attended. There will be a button on each e-blast and on LWVGE.org linking to the reporting email address of lwvgemeetingreport@gmail.com.
Repeat the above as many times as you like. Watch as the attendance marker goes up!
Bonus: Each time you attend a meeting, your name will be entered in a drawing for a prize.
