WASHINGTON — It is with profound sadness that the League of Women Voters announces the passing of our esteemed president, Dr. Deborah Ann Turner, who passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from complications from a pulmonary embolism.

LWVGE Members Elected To Leadership Positions
The LWVIL state convention was held June 10-11th and two LWVGE members were elected to leadership positions — Michelle Thorsell to the post of Board Secretary and Erica Nelson to the Nominating Committee. Congratulations to both of them and the new LWVIL Board! The convention was held virtually with delegates from DuPage County leagues coming together to make more personal connections (pictured).
Democracy Challenge Award Winners
2023 inaugural Charlotte Swett Walter Democracy Challenge Awards were given to Emily Puchalski, Glenbard South Junior for “ Democracy- Fragile Like Glass” and to Angie Abraham, Glenbard West sophomore for “ Every Voice Matters”. This Award is named after long time LWVGE member Charlotte Swett Walter.
