Combatting Poverty in DuPage County

  • Glen Ellyn Police Station 65 South Park Boulevard Glen Ellyn, IL, 60137 United States (map)

PLEASE NOTE VENUE CHANGE to GE POLICE DEPT.

Now more than ever, many are facing the threat of being unhoused or going hungry or being without basic healthcare.

All are welcome to this community meeting featuring a panel of local nonprofits that focus on local individuals and families who need a helping hand. We will hear from:

  • Laura Glaza, ED Glen House Food Pantry

  • Kara Murphy, President of the DuPage Health Coalition

  • Amy Van Polen, CEO for Bridge Communities

Please see bios below. If you are able to donate, please bring grocery or pharmacy gift cards or some of the following items that are needed by these organizations (We will split all gift cards among the three panelist’s organizations)

Specifically, beside gift cards, requests are for:

Glen House:
Canned Chicken, Tuna
Canned Soup

Bridge Communities
Gasoline gift cards
Black women’s hair products (curl-enhancing creams, leave-in conditioners, and styling gels from brands like Mielle Organics, PATTERN Beauty, Camille Rose, CURLS, and The Mane Choice)

DuPage Health Coalition
Coats and winter weather items
Women’s hygiene items (tampons, pads, etc)

One of the League’s key positions is “Equity of Opportunity: Ensure families can meet basic human needs such as food, housing, and healthcare.” It is an important issue for the League and for all in our community.

Thank you and hope to see you there.
