LWV Oak Park & River Forest Chapter will host LWVIL's Barbara Laimins for a Zoom discussion on the state's Fair Maps initiative. LWV members are welcome to join.

Partisan gerrymandering serves to predetermine the outcome of our elections, robbing voters of a truly representative government. That is why the League of Women Voters of Illinois is supporting an initiative by Fair Maps Illinois to amend the Illinois Constitution and move the state closer to legislative districts that reflect our voting population in time for decennial redistricting in 2030. 

LWVIL is embarking on a campaign to gather petitions in support of this amendment. They are asking League members to help by obtaining signatures of Illinois voters. You can download instructions for and a copy of petitions here.

It’s the right goal, but skeptics wonder if it is the right time, considering that many states are either considering or redrawing their maps mid-cycle. On Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 6:00pm, Barb Laimins of LWV IL will present information on Fair Maps on Zoom.
